Morley Cottage is situated in the heart of Hathersage, Derbyshire, a popular village in the Hope Valley at the heart of the Peak District National Park, within easy reach of many popular local attractions and ideally placed for outdoor activities such as walking, cycling, climbing and hang-gliding. Hathersage Church boasts the reputed grave of Little John (of Robin Hood fame), and other attractions of the village include the famous open air swimming pool and various locations connected with the novel 'Jane Eyre', which was written by Charlotte Bronte after a visit to Hathersage. |
![]() Peveril Castle and Mam Tor, Castleton For those with a sense of history there are numerous magnificent historic houses all within a few miles. These include Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Eyam Hall, Hardwick Hall and Lyme Hall - all of which offer excellent days out. Also well worth a visit is Matlock and Matlock Bath, with show caves, a lead mining museum and a cable car. |

Hathersage is the perfect base from which to explore the Hope Valley - this includes the historical village of Castleton (4 miles), with its castle and Blue John Caverns, and the Plague village of Eyam (4 miles). Also within easy reach (6 miles) is the village of Tideswell, with its magnificent church, known locally as the 'Cathedral of the Peak'. |

The historic towns of Buxton, Bakewell, Sheffield and Chesterfield are all within easy reach. A wide range of cultural events are available at Buxton Opera House, which hosts an annual music and opera festival and a Gilbert and Sullivan Festival, while Bakewell has a weekly agricultural market every Monday. |
There are footpaths from the door of Morley Cottage, offering routes to Stanage Edge, the Derwent Valley and Eyam Moor. This is some of the best walking country in the Peak District. Within a short drive are other famous walking centres such as Dovedale, Kinder Scout and Edale. Cycling and mountain biking are popular sports in and around the Hope Valley, with a wide range of routes to suit all abilities. Rock climbing is a popular sport in the Peak District and can be found on nearby gritstone edges such as Stanage Edge plus many other local centres. There are numerous opportunities locally for fishing, hang-gliding, golfing, horse riding, cycling and mountain biking. |

Hathersage has a full range of shops including several outdor equipment shops. There are numerous excellent quality pubs and restaurants in Hathersage and surrounding villages, and good local transport, with regular buses to Sheffield and a railway station with trains to Manchester and Sheffield.
